STEP 1 - Choose a Canadian public company.
Choose one Canadian public company that you will research for your assignment. The company you choose MUST be listed between 1-100 of the Business Top 1000 listed below:

STEP 2 - Choose a topic.

You are going to write your research report on a certain aspect of the company you just chose in Step 1. Click the drop-down menu below to review the topics you can choose from.

STEP 3 - Choose your search tools.

Several different article databases were discussed during the tutorial.

For this assignment,

  • You MUST search the article databases below for information on the company and topic you chose in Step 1 and Step 2.
  • Find at least three different magazine, journal or newspaper articles from these article databases.

Evaluate: Be sure to evaluate the articles you chose to determine if they are relevant, reliable and current (written within the last 18 months).

All of the articles must include an author and cannot be from a newswire service. You cannot pick an article that has an author listed as "anonymous".

  • Select different keywords for your topic to search the databases. For example if your topic is marketing you can also try searching advertising or commercials. If your topic is Rogers’ products you can also try searching for the products such as “smart phones” or Rogers-specific products such as “On Demand”.

PRINT OUT YOUR THREE ARTICLES
Be sure to print the three articles directly from the database website where you find them. You need to hand them in with your research report, and identify where you got them from in your Works Cited list.

STEP 4 - Write your research report.

Using the 3 articles you found in Step 3, write a 3-4 page double-spaced research report (not including title page or works cited list) discussing the topic you selected (in Step 2) in relation to the Canadian public company you chose in Step 1. Don't forget to evaluate the three articles you chose to determine if they are relevant, reliable and current (written within the last 18 months).

Specifically:

  1. Based on the information you have gained from your research, discuss what impact your topic has had on the company (postive impact or negative impact). Provide examples to support your points.

  2. If you worked at the company you chose in Step 1, what personal skills would you contribute to the company?

Write your report with MS Word. In addition, it must be:

  • double-spaced
  • 12 times (font size)
  • Times New Roman (font style)
 
STEP 5 - Create a Works Cited list.

Using the MLA Style Guide, prepare a Works Cited list of your 3 articles on a separate page and attach it to the end of your research report.

Create your Works Cited list with MS Word. In addition, it must be:

  • 12 times (font size)
  • Times New Roman (font style)
